Hi! I'm Gershwin, aka the Cat in the Hat.

I was found in a pile of cow poop with chemical burns all over my body. Most of them have healed now, but there's this big one on my head that needs a little help from some surgeons.

I'm also looking for a rescue, a foster, or a forever home!

Will you help me?

ABOUT GERSHWIN

Gershwin isn't the most photogenic kitty we've ever met, but he certainly is one of the sweetest! We believe that he is approximately 2-4 years old. He is FeLV+ on a snap test, but IFA has not been performed. This means that he needs an experienced foster parent or to go to a home where he is the only cat. He will also need to remain indoors-only, but that doesn't seem to bother him! He is perfectly happy snuggling with you in bed or on the couch.

Gershwin's other burns have healed well, and he seems very comfortable. As far as we know, Gershwin is otherwise healthy.

GERSHWIN'S MEDICAL CONDITION

Gershwin needs a skin flap to close the defect over his head. Although the wound does not seem to be causing him any pain, it can easily become infected, especially since his skull is poking through! Because of its location and his FeLV status, it is unlikely that healthy granulation tissue will form on its own. He currently has a tie-over bandage (his hat!) to keep the wound clean.

We believe that Gershwin will be able to live a normal, healthy life if we can fix the defect on his head. Although FeLV+ cats can have shorter life spans than normal cats, Gershwin definitely deserves a shot!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We are desperately searching for a rescue organization, dedicated foster parent, or a loving forever home for Gershwin. He is currently in the Philadelphia area. If you can be one of these heroes for Gershwin, please contact Dr. Valerie Nesser at vnesser@vet.upenn.edu.

We are also raising money to cover the cost of Gershwin's surgery. Anything and everything helps, so please visit our gofundme page when it goes live!
